Anne Frank

Anne Frank, her family and another family, a total of 8 people, hid in a secret annexe of a house during World War Two because of the Nazi persecution of the Jews. They went into hiding on July 6, 1942.  They spent two years living in very small quarters, being as quiet as possible during the day and never opening the blinds. In the mornings, she would go up to the attic to get a bit of fresh air and light. She longed to go outside. On August 4, 1944, they were found by Nazis and taken to concentration camps.

Anne's father, Otto was the only one who survived the war and he decided to publish Anne's diary. She had hoped to become a published author some day and had started writing a book about her experiences in the annexe.

It was very interesting to walk through the house and learn about her story. It's very hard to imagine what it would have been like! Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures inside. We saw the bookcase that was used to conceal the door, the rooms they lived in and a few original pages of her diary.
