Zaanse Schans

Well, Cornie and I are back to doing our own thinking again, instead of following the leader and the crowd. We are on our own schedule-no more rushing to get back to the bus on time, eating at roadway cafeterias and standing in line to use the bathroom at motorway stops, and... we slept until 10:15 today! Don't get us wrong- the tour was fantastic. We would definitely recommend it to others. We saw so much that we wouldn't had otherwise seen, and it was great to have things arranged for us, suitcases delivered to hotel rooms and picked up from the room in the morning, and friends to share the journey with. But after 30 days, it's now also nice to have our independence back.

We took the train to a quaint village, Zaanse Schans, just north of Amsterdam and spent the afternoon there. We had read about it on the internet, but weren't sure what to expect. Wow, were we in for a treat. It was a beautiful sunny day and this village was so peaceful. We strolled throughout the town and saw how the windmills turn peanuts to oil, how cheese is made and how clogs are made. There was a lot of beautiful scenery for photographs as well.
